ARTS STUDENTS
Enhancing the Arts Academic Experience

Advocating for flexible grading methods like “grading for growth” in accordance with the Arts Strategic Plan Listening Phase Report

Advocate for past course syllabi to be available during course registration

Collaborating with the Arts Undergraduate Society (AUS) to encourage greater participation in Student Experience of Instruction (SEIs) by raising awareness of their significance and importance, and advocate for broad implementation of mid-course feedback surveys

Advocate for more interdisciplinary and cross-disciplinary opportunities in research, courses and extra-curricular activities

Work with the Teaching and Learning Committee and Faculty of Arts for the broad implementation of lecture-capture technology in course design

Advocate for improvements to the Co-Op Program, such as increased transparency around program fees and competitive salaries by working with Faculty of Arts, UBC Provost’s Office and AUS

Expanding undergraduate research opportunities outside of the classroom

Review the GenAI Teaching and Learning Guidelines to focus more on the integration of GenAI tools like ChatGPT into teaching and learning activities, rather than its prohibition

Advocate for the permanent extension of the course withdrawal deadline to the last day of classes

Ensure that a centralized exam database is approved in principle by Senate so that past exams are available to students ahead of time

Work with the Faculty of Arts to engage in broader curriculum review in line with the Inclusion Action Plan to ensure that courses, where possible, are cognizant of historical anti-Black racism, discrimination and Indigenous issues
